PRYOR CENTER AUTHOR TALK
Join artist and author Sean Fitzgibbon on October 22 at the Pryor Center for Arkansas Oral and Visual History for a discussion of his graphic nonfiction book What Follows Is True: Crescent Hotel. This 240-page, fully painted work uncovers the gripping history of the Crescent Hotel’s strange chapter as the Baker Hospital, a Depression-era cancer treatment center.Blending oral histories, newspaper archives, and Norman Baker’s own writings, Fitzgibbon weaves together a chilling account of real-life villains and the era they shaped. The book earned a prestigious Kirkus Star, with Kirkus praising it as “a gripping, moody, illustrated chronicle of the notorious Crescent Hotel.”
Books will be available for purchase, and original artwork from the project will be on display. Don’t miss this chance to experience a powerful mix of art, history, and storytelling.
The Pryor Center was founded in 1999 by Senator David H. Pryor and Barbara Pryor, the Center documents Arkansas’s cultural heritage through audio and video collections shared with scholars, students, and the public.
