ADVANCED GRAPHIC ILLUSTRATION

Spring semester registration is open.  One of my favorite college classes I'll be teaching this spring 2014 at NWACC is Advanced Graphic Illustration (ART 2364) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00pm-4:45pm starting on January 14th and ending May 1.   Students will explore the styles and techniques of commercial illustration (books and magazines, concept art, music CDs, posters, packaging, etc.) and inking with basic illustration skills such as proportion, perspectives, and composition. (Pastel, watercolor, acrylic, etc. will also be used.) Students will learn both conventional hand rendered and computer illustration techniques.

I'll also be teaching Introduction to Studio Art (Art 1033) from 6:00pm-8:45pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on January 14th and ending May 1.  Through hands-on experience involving basic visual elements, students apply principles of design to projects in painting, drawing and sculpture.

TRAIL DANCE FILM FESTIVAL OFFICIAL SELECTION

In 2013 I contributed production and DVD cover art for the documentary film Up Among The Hills directed by Larry Foley and narrated by Bill Clinton.  The film has been recently named an Official Selection by the TRAIL DANCE FILM FESTIVAL among the 90+ films selected.   The 8th annual Trail Dance Film Festival will run from Jan 24-25.

Prints of DVD cover art and production art used in the film's time-lapse production are also available for purchase in the Clinton House Museum gift shop and at my STORE.  For museum hours, admission and location please visit them on the web at clintonhousemuseum.org.

SLG PUBLISHING ILLUSTRATION: GLOOMCOOKIE

This week I thought I'd share an illustration I was hired to do awhile back for SLG's graphic novel series GloomCookie by Sarena Valentino and my old friend John Gebbia.  The book featured "gothic vignettes of humor, horror, sorrow, unrequited love, social treachery, bad goth poetry, and monsters under the bed that lure you in with daring imagery and a rich, dark atmosphere."   SLG Publishing is located in San Jose, CA.  Special thanks to John Gebbia and SLG president and founder Dan Vado.
