Drawing Podcast Inspiration While Drawing

Just thought I'd share a few mind blowing science and exploration style podcasts I've been listening to recently while working at my drawing table.  This type of info influences my art work quite heavily.

  • Stuff To Blow Your Mind: Julie Douglas and Robert Lamb host this mind-blowing podcast that does just that.

  • Fw: Thinking: Jonathan Strickland. Lauren Vogelbaum, and Joe McCormick explore the future of technology and humanity.

  • Science Fantastic and Explorations In Science: Dr. Michio Kaku is a professor of theoretical physics and co-creator of the string field theory. You know him from just about every Discovery and Science Channel documentary out there.

  • Stuff You Should Know: Charles (Chuck) W. Bryant and Josh Clark cover topics you never even considered wanting to know more about. Ever wonder how the earthquakes work? Everything from abandoned houses to Muppets to space elevators is here.

  • The Seminar About Long Term Thinking: Stewart Brand hosts engaging talks to "creatively foster long-term thinking and responsibility for the next 10,000 years."

Of course I also recommend TED Talks but they are only 18 minutes long and video format so it's best to listen to them while not working on other projects.  I'm always looking for new things to listen to while at the drawing table so please drop me a line sometime and fill me in on some more interesting podcasts!

ARCHIVEd work

Illustrations of mine tend to accumulate, so I'm always trying to figure out the best way to file past works. Recently I came across a bunch of early illustrations while in the process of archiving my work.  Early illustrations are generally difficult for me to look at for because one tends to improve but some still seem to hold up okay.  I decided to start an ARCHIVE to showcase some past works.

Here are a couple of my editorial illustrations from the mid 1990s.  The top pen and ink illustration was for the American Association of Advertising Agencies and the bottom was for a magazine article about the physiology of stress.  The image was rendered in pen and ink and then I moved it across a black and white copier to give it the warped, stretched effect.

2013 Summer Workshops

Every kids gets an original drawing or painting of mine from each workshop I teach.  I do demos throughout each class and kids get to pick the subject matter and not only do they come out of the class with their own new works but they get my demo work as well!  Each class has a general theme and the last class was drawing animals.

Just a quick reminder of upcoming classes I'll be teaching classes at NWA Community Creative Center at Nadine Baum Studios from July 29 thru August 9.
