PROCESS

Just thought I'd share a bit of my drawing and painting process. When creating my stories I tend to draw quite a bit of period vehicles. I often use model cars for reference. Norman Baker drove a custom painted purple Cord 812 while at in Eureka Springs during the late 1930's. I found a model 1937 Cord automobile that served as reference. The Cord 810 and 812 was the first American-designed and built front wheel drive car with independent front suspension.

I often tape off the edges of my watercolor paper using painters tape so I can keep the edges clean. I start with a rough draft and then move to tight pencils and spot black areas then build up with watercolor values and then color. Some of these original pages were recently on display at Community Creative Center’s McCoy Gallery in Fayetteville, AR and will be exhibited at the Muscatine Art Center in Muscatine, IA in September and October.
