I’ve always been fascinated by abandoned, ghost towns and Centralia looks like a town that simply vanished. In 1962, a fire ignited deep within its abandoned coal mines, and never stopped burning. Toxic gases, collapsing ground, and smoke rising from cracked streets forced nearly every resident to leave. Decades later, the fire still smolders beneath the empty town, making Centralia, the inspiration for Silent Hill and a place where the earth itself refuses to let the past rest.
